MAY 25, 2008 - A LOVELY DAY OF WORSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP

The homecoming service and program were rich with celebration, tributes, and the sharing of fond memories of Lower Peach Tree. Enjoying this happy, sunny day were about 125 regular worshippers. We also welcomed around 20 newcomers. We hope our first-time visitors will become "regulars" in the future joining those who can claim almost perfect attendance over a period of many years.

MEMORIAL DAY

Coinciding with the national holiday weekend, our service showed a patriotic flavor with wreaths decorating the church entrance, repetition of the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of "God Bless America."

This wreath, made of lovely fresh flowers, was created by Thomas Hale and placed in memory of Donald Walker, a homecomer with an almost perfect attendance record.

BICENTENNIAL

Recognition of the Bicentennial of Methodism in Alabama included the reading of a proclamation signed by Gov. Bob Riley last January.

Our thanks to Mrs. Sharon Tucker, Methodist Archives Center, Huntingdon College Library, for this logo image.

PASTOR O'BRYANT

The 2007 Christmas Candlelight Service included a tribute to our beloved former pastor, Jimmy R. O'Bryant, who died last November.

Rev. O'Bryant served the Lower Peach Tree congregation from 1995 until his retirement in 2005. Thomas Hale wrote in his tribute, "He took a deep and profound interest in everyone involved with the church. His soft spoken voice, radiant smile and cheerful laughter were always a delightful welcome to any event. His uncanny ability to solve the most difficult problem with the greatest of ease was a testimonial to his Christian spirit."

Rev. Charles Wimberly leads the offertory prayer.
At our 2008 Homecoming the exquisite new brass collection plates were used for the first time. They were a gift to the church from Juanita O'Bryant in memory of her husband.

THEME - PRECIOUS MEMORIES

Always a highlight of homecoming are the contributions of our pastor and congregation. The sermon, "Precious Memories Flood our Souls," was a perfect expression of this year's theme.

Of the congregation, Homecoming Coordinator Maud Garrick says, "At reminiscing time I've never known any better participation." There was real joy reflected in the faces of those who shared their happy memories with relatives and friends.
